Overview

Vienna is particularly atmospheric during Advent. Historic squares, narrow alleyways and imperial architecture provide the backdrop for some of Europe’s most beautiful Christmas markets. This guided winter walk combines a visit to five different Christmas markets with a tour of Vienna’s historic old town. Each market has its own character – from the arts and crafts stalls on Spittelberg to the festive setting in front of Vienna City Hall and the traditional market on Freyung. Along the route, there’s the chance to sample winter specialities such as roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and Christmas biscuits. At the same time, the tour places the markets within the historical context of Vienna and its winter traditions. You’ll learn how the city developed from a Baroque imperial capital into a modern metropolis. The walk also offers an ideal way to find your bearings in the historic centre and ends near St Stephen’s Cathedral. Perfect for rounding off the evening on your own afterwards.
